Sports covered include Cross Country Running including the 2008 World Cross Country at Edinburgh, Mountain & Fell Running, Athletics, Golf, Cycling and Rugby.

    2008 Men's Irish Cross Country Championship (183 images) Updated
    The Irish Cross Country Championship was held at Queen's University of Belfast playing fields on Saturday 1 March.

    The race was won by Cathal Lombard (136) of Leevale AC in a time of 40:32. Alistair Cragg of Clontiffe Harriers AC was second in 40:40 and Vinny Mulvey (16) of Raheny Shamrock AC third in 40:56. Clontiffe Harriers AC won the team event.

    The third Bobby Rea Memorial cross country Women's race was held at University of Ulster Coleraine sports ground. The race was won by Gladys Ganiel-O'Neill of Abbey AC.

    2009 East Antrim Audi CC Cyclo Cross (74 images)
    The 2009 East Antrim Audi Cyclo Cross race was held on a new course at Knockdhu in County Antrim. The race was run over 4 laps of the challenging course designed by race organiser Danny Hylands.

    2009 Seven Sevens Mountain Race (298 images)
    The Seven Sevens Mountain Race was run over the seven peaks over 700 metres in the Mourne Mountains on Saturday 1 August 2009. The overall distance was 18.9 miles and the climb 8775 feet.

    The photographs in this gallery were taken at the col between Slieve Binnion and Slieve Lamagan. At this point the runners had run over five of the seven summits - Donard, Commedagh, Bearnagh, Meelmore and Meelbeg leaving Binnion and Lamagan to climb. The race started and finished at Donard Park in Newcastle.

    Gary Bailey (900) of Mourne Runners won in 4:02:40, Don Travers (897) of Newry City Runners was second in 4:22:23 and Clive Bailey (908) of Mourne Runners was third in 4:31:40. Norma Rea (232) of BARF won the Women's race in 5:56:59

    The 2008 Home Countries Women's Cross Country Race was held at Holrood Park, Edinurgh on Saturday 29th March 2008 as a prelude to the World Cross COuntry Championships

    The Inter-Regional Under 17 Men's Race was held at Holyrood Park on Saturday 29 March 2008 as a prelude to the World Cross Country races the following day.
    2009 NI and Ulster Championships (144 images)
    The Northern Ireland and Ulster Senior Track and Field Championships in conjunction with the McCain UKA were held at Antrim Forum on Saturday 13 June 2009. Full resouts can be viewed at the Athletics Northern Ireland site: www.niathletics.org.

    2009 Annalong Horseshoe Mountain Race (127 images)
    The Annalong Horseshoe Classic is a mountain race held in the Mourne Mountains in Northern Ireland. The race is run over 5 of the major peaks - Chimney Rock, Commedagh, Cove, Slievelamagan and Binnian - covering a distance of 12.1 miles and a climb of 5040 feet. The inagural race was held in 1982.

    The photographs in this gallery were taken at the race held on 16 May 2009 which was won by Deon McNeilly of Newcastle AC in 2:20.06. Des Woods of Mourne Runners was second in 2:22.19 and Clive Bailey also of Mourne Runners was third in 2:27.44. Kathleen Monteverde won the women's race in 4:12.43.

    2009 P&O Knockdhu Mountain Race (212 images)
    The 4 mile 1200 feet of climb P&O Knockdhu Mountain Race was held on Saturday 25 April 2009 at Knockdhu which overlooks the Irish Sea and is 5 miles north of Larne in N Ireland.

    Stephen Cunningham of Mourne Runners won in a time of 34:16 and Karen Alexander of Sperrin Runners won the Women's race in time of 37:58.

    Eoghan Totten of Newcastle AC won the Men's 3 mile junior race in 24:47 and Aine McCann of Mourne Runners won the junior women's race in 28:57.

    2009 British Mountain Running Championship at Bearnagh (446 images)
    The first round of the 2009 British Mountain Running Championship was held at Bearnagh in the Mourne Mountain in Northern Ireland on 4 April 2009. The 4 mile race started and finished at Happy Valley taking in the summits of Slieve Meelbeg, Bearnagh and Meelmore, a climb of 2960 feet.
    Rob Hope of Pudsey & Bramley won the race in 40:35 followed by Danny Hope also of Pudsey & Bramley in 40:47 with Morgan Donnelly of Borrowdale third in 41:39. Pippa Jackson of Keswick AC won the ladies race in 49:55.

    2009 Premier Power Larne Half Marathon - Inward (122 images)
    2009 Outward Premier Power Larne Half Marathon (202 images)
    The Premier Power Larne Half Marathon was held on Saturday 28 March 2209. The race was run on the Antrim Coast Road, which was blasted out from the chalky cliffs in 1834 to provide access to the beautiful nine Glens of Antrim, with views of the Antrim Coast and if the weather is fine the Scottish coastline and the Ailsa Craig.

    2008-Tour of the North Cycle Race (39 images)
    Stage 2 was held on Saturday 22 March 2008.

    This 70 mile stage started in Ballymena, progressed to Kilwaughter near Larne, joining the Antrim Coast Road at Drumnagreagh. The tour went inland north of Glenarm up Glencloy, back to the Coast Road at Carnlough and on to Waterfoot before proceeding up Glenarrif Glen finishing in Ballymena. King of the Hills points were at Shanes Hill, 13 miles from the start, Ballyvaddy at the top of Glencloy and the top of Glenarrif Glen.

    2009-Men's NI & Ulster Senior Cross Country Championship (68 images)
    The 2009 Athletics Northern Ireland and Ulster Athletic Council Cross Championships were held on Saturday 31 January 2009 at Gransha Grounds, L'Derry.

    Brian Campbell (139) of Willowfield T Harriers won the 12 K race for the third consective year in a time of 40:40. Eddie McGinley (17) of Annadale Striders was second in 40:44 and Stephen Scullion (95) of North Belfast Harriers was third.

    Annadale Striders won the team race.

    2009 Women's NI & Ulster Senior Cross Country Championship (43 images)
    The 2009 Athletics Northern Ireland and Ulster Athletic Council Cross Championships were held on Saturday 31 January 2009 at Gransha Grounds, L'Derry.

    Aileen Morrison (161) of City of Derry AC won the women's race running the 6K in a time of 22:28. Gladys Ganiel-O'Neil (154) of abbey AC was second in 22:47 and Suzanne MCormick (190) of Lagan Valley AC was third in 23:04.

    The 2009 Junior Men's Race at the NI & Ulster Veteran's Cross Country Championship was held at Stormont Estate near Belfast on 17th January 2009.

    2009 Women's NI & Ulster Veterans Cross Country Championships (55 images)
    The 2009 Women's NI & Ulster Veteran's Cross Country Championship was held at Stormont Estate near Belfast on 17th January 2009.

    Cathy McCourt (199) of North Belfast Harriers won the Veteran women's Race in 16:54, Kay Bryne (237) of Finn Valley AC was second in 17:03.
    Claire Connor ( 276) also of North Belfast Harriers won the Intermediate women's race in 17:05 with Roberta Dornan (283) of North Down AC second in 17:13.
    Susan Smith (259) won the Junior women's Race in 17:39 with Christine McCullagh (265) second in 18:30

    2009 Men's NI & Ulster Veteran's Cross Country Championship (20 images)
    The 2009 Men's NI & Ulster Veteran's Cross Country Championship was held at Stormont Estate near Belfast on 17th January 2009. Dave Morewood (22) of North Belfast Harriers won the race in 27:06, Pauric McKinney (63) of Letterkenny AC was second in 27:17 and Stephen Duncan (27) of Omagh Harriers was third in 27:38.

    109 runners ran in the Men's Veterans race in wet and windy conditions.

    2009 Belfast Men's International Cross Country (30 images)
    The 2009 Belfast International Cross Country (IAAF Permit Meeting) incorporating the McCain UK Cross Country Challenge was held at the CAFRE, Greenmount Campus, Antrim, Northern Ireland on Saturday 3 January.
    The men's international race was won by Jida Merga (4) of Ethopia in a time of 27:32 with Boniface Kiprop (1) of Uganda second in 27:34 and Andrew Lemoncello (7) of England third in 27:49.

    2009 Belfast Men's U20 Cross Country Championship (6 images)
    The 2009 Belfast International Cross Country (IAAF Permit Meeting) incorporating the McCain UK Cross Country Challenge was held at the CAFRE, Greenmount Campus, Antrim, Northern Ireland on Saturday 3 January.

    Adam Birchell (223) of Carmarthan Harriers won the race in 17:44. Michael Williams (253) of Carmarthan Harriers was first home in 17:39 but lost his place because he was too old. Eoin Rowan (231) of Donore Harriers was second in 17:46 and Philip Hurst (254) of Northern Athletics was third in 17:51.

    2009 Belfast Women's International Cross Country (101 images)
    The 2009 Belfast International Cross Country (IAAF Permit Meeting) incorporating the McCain UK Cross Country Challenge was held at the CAFRE, Greenmount Campus, Antrim, Northern Ireland on Saturday 3 January.

    The women's international race was won by Stephanie Twell (63) of GB in 18:25 , Deirdre Byrne (73) of Ireland was second in 18:26 and Freya Murray (84) of Scotland was third in 18:32.

    The 2006 All Ireland Championship European Selection Race was held at Rostrevor in the Mourne Mountains in Northern Ireland
    2008 Joe Seeley Cup (111 images)
    The Joe Seeley Cup 10K road race was held in Ormeau Park Belfast on saturday 6 December 2008. Joe McAllister of St Malachy's AC won the men's race and Kerry Harty of Newcastle won the women's race.

    The Malcolm Cup 4 mile Cross Country Race was held at Sixmilewater Park in Ballyclare on Saturday 29 November 2008. Dairmuid Grant of City of derry AC won the race in 21:46.

    2008 Malcolm Cup - Women's and Vet Men's Race (32 images)
    The Women's, Vet Women's and Men's Vet three mile Race was held on Saurday 29 Novemner 2008 at Sixmilewater Park in Ballyclare.

    Paul Carroll (4) of Annadale Striders won the Men's Vet race in 16:54 and Eileen Morrison of City of Derry AC won the Women's Open Race in 18:40.

    Cyclo Cross organised by Team Madigan at Carrickfergus on Sunday 26 October 2008. The eight lap race was won by Mark Allen (6) of Swords CC. Liam McGreevey (9) of Banbridge Cc was second.

    The Bobby Rea Memorial Cross Country Races were held a Jordanstown on Saturday 25/10/08. The men's event run over 5000 metres was won by Joe McAllister of St Malachy's and the Women's race over 3000 metres by Judi Graham of the organising club Abbey AC.

    The Bobby Rea Memorial Cross Country Races were held a Jordanstown on Saturday 25/10/08. The men's event run over 5000 metres was won by Joe McAllister of St Malachy's and the Women's race over 3000 metres by Judi Graham of the organising club Abbey AC.

    2008 East Antrim Audi CC Cyclo Cross (40 images)
    The 2008 East Antrim Cyclo Cross event was held at Seacourt on the outskirts of Larne, Northern Ireland on Saturday 11 October.

    The 8 lap race was won by Liam Mcgreevy (Banbridge Cc in a time of 59:13. Graham Boyd (WMTB) was second in 59:14 and Conor Campbell (Newry wheelers) in 49:44.

    2008 Juvenile Track & Field Championships of Ireland (28 images)
    The 2008 Juvenile Track and Field Championships of Ireland were held at Antrim Forum on 5th and 6th July 2008.
    2008 Lurig Mountain Race (180 images)
    The 2008 Lurig Mountain Race was held on Saturday 9 August.

    The 3.5 mile race started in the centre of Cushendall and proceeded to the top of Lurig - 375 metres high- returning by the same route. The race was part of the Heart of the Glens Festival.

    Jason Wilson (122) of Pegasus AC won the men's race in 32:31 and Karen Alexander (81 ) of Sperrin Runners won the women's race in a new record time of 34:24

    2008 Donard Classic Mountain Race (278 images)
    The Donard Mountain Race was held on Friday 4 July 2008. The race to the 859 metre summit of Slieve Donard started and finished at the Newcastle Centre. Most of the runners took the Black Stairs route to the summit of Donard. The race was just less than 5.5 miles in length.

    2008 NI & Ulster Senior Track & Field Championships (142 images)
    The NI & Ulster Senior Track & Field Championships were held at Antrim Forum on 14 June 2008. The meeting was organised by Athletics Northern Ireland and Ulster Athletics and sponsored by Antrim Borough Council.

    2008 Donard Commedagh Mountain Race (218 images)
    The 2008 Donard Commedagh Mountain race was held on Saturday 24 May. The race started in Donard Park in Newcastle, proceeded to the Quarry at the foot of Thomas' Mountain, the summits of Slieve Donard and Commedagh and back to Donard Park via Shan Slieve and Slievenamaddy. The race which was the third round of the 2008 NIMRA Championship was 6.8 miles in length with 3300 feet of climb.
    Des Woods (354) of Mourne Runners won the race in a time of 63:07, followed by Deon McNeilly (390) of Newcastle AC in 65:09 and Stephen Cunningham (366) on Mourne Runners in 65:36.
    Fiona Maxwell of Mourne Runners won the Ladies race in 72:46 followed by Alwynne Shannon of Newcastle AC in 80:28 and Anne Sandford also of Newcastle AC in 83:59.

    2008 P&O Irish Sea Knockdhu International Mountain Race (110 images)
    The Knockdhu International Mountain Race was held on 26 April 2008 at Knockdhu near Larne on the Antrim Coast Road. The Senior race was 7KM in length with 420 metres of climb.
    Colin Donnelly (48) of Lochaber representating Scotland won the race in a time of 36:56. second was Dan Whitehead (49) of Cosmics also representing Scotland in 37:25 and third was Richard Roberts (21) of Eryri representing Wales "A" in 37:35.
    The ladies race was won by Claire Gordon (51) of HBT and Scotland, Anna Bartlett (31) of Shrewsbury and Wales was second and Dawn Scott (52) of Lochaber and Scotland was third.
    2008 P&O Irish Sea Knockdhu Junior International Mountain Race (43 images)
    The Knockdhu Junior International Mountain Race was held on 26 April 2008 at Knockdhu near Larne on the Antrim Coast Road. The Junior U17 race was 3KM in length with 140 metres of climb. Alistair Robertson (62) won this race in 17:53.
    The International U20 Junior Race was 4.4 KM in length with 210 metres of climb. This was won by Matthew Gillespie (57) of Central representing Scotland in 23:18.
    Jessica Martin (59) of Kilbarchan AAC also representing Scotland won the girls race in 27:33.
    2008 Mourne Peaks Mountain Race (434 images)
    The Mourne Peaks Mountain race was the first round of the 2008 British Mountain Championships. It was held in the Mourne Mountains in Northern Ireland and was run over Meelmore Meelbeg,Slieve Loughshannagh,Carn, Doan, Lamagan,Cove,Commedagh, Slievenagloch and Luke's Mountain a distance of 12.5 miles with a climb of 6200 feet.

    Rob Hope of Pudsey & Bramley won the race overtaking Jethro Lennox of Shettleston Harriers on the final climb from the sheep pens. Lloyd Taggart of Dark Peak was third. Angela Mudge of Carnethy was 23rd overall and won the Women's race.

    2008 IAAF World Cross Country Senior Women's Championship held at Holyrood Park, Edinburgh on Sunday 30 March 2008.
